Teen Book Festival +Author Panel+

FINALLY updating from TBF 2011.

When my aunt and I arrived, the gym already looked like this:

Teens swarming all over the place.  We found a seat, and waited for the celebrities authors to arrive.  Stephanie Squicciarini, the chair of the TBF committee and its genius creator, introduced each other with what they would have been voted in mock high school elections.  Lots of “most likely to succeed” and “most likely to blend in with the wallpaper”.

Then the opening panel began.  Each author had to answer a question submitted by one of the TBF teen volunteers.  This is a great way to choose which authors to go listen to, if you haven’t already decided.  The last round of questions was a game of “would you rather?”, and helped us decide to go see Charles R. Smith, Jr.  His question was, “Would you rather spend the day with your favorite author or favorite book character, and whom?”  He answered that he’d like to spend the day with Barack Obama, because he grew up without a dad, too, and was raising two little girls.  Charles wanted to ask questions about how to raise a daughter.

We chose to go see Ally Carter, Charles R. Smith, Jr., Melissa de la Cruz & Elizabeth Scott, and Ellen Hopkins.  Others authors were: James L. Barry, Charles Benoit, Josh Berk, Heather Brewer, Selene Castrovilla, Svetlana Chmakova, Mark Crilley, Shannon Delany, Carl Deuker, Kathleen Duey, Beth Fantaskey, Garret Freymann-Weyr, Julie Halpern, Rachel Hawkins, Patrick Jones, Melissa Kantor, Jackie Morse Kessler, A.S. King, Eric Luper, Torret Maldonado, Shari Maurer, Jon Skovron, & Terry Trueman.  So many authors, so little time!
